Treatment focus: BOTOX

Chances are, you’ve heard of Botox, the seemingly miraculous treatment for wrinkles and fine lines. But do you know what else it can be used for? Here we give you the lowdown on other others we can treat using anti-wrinkle injections.

Excessive underarm sweating

Botox is injected into the affected areas to help reduce excessive sweating – we can control this condition by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands do not receive chemical signals, the severe sweating stops.

Gummy smile

When some people smile their upper lip elevates too far above their upper teeth, exposing gums and producing an unattractive smile. This happens due to several causes, one of the causes is hyperactive muscle which elevates the upper lip. Fortunately, gummy smile can be simply and effectively corrected by Botox injections to reduce the activity of the muscle that elevates the upper lip.

Jawline Contour (masseter)

That ‘square-jawed’ look is usually the result of over developed masseter muscles; they’re the muscles that are attached at the angle of your jaw and control your chewing.  If you tense them a great deal – or grind your teeth at all – they become more pronounced and produce that strong, masculine jawline. With highly advanced techniques and specialised use of Botox the strength and size of your masseter muscles can be slimmed down to create a more ‘oval’ and feminine appearance.

Skincare ingredient of the month: Kojic acid

This skin brightening ingredient is  a naturally occurring agent produced by fungi which inhibits melanin production. Because of its ability to really penetrate the layers of your skin and stop the production of melanin, kojic acid is usually sought out as a spot-fading treatment, and is often considered a less-aggressive answer to hydroquinone. Those who have a tendency to get hyperpigmentation, whether caused by the sun, signs of ageing, or post-breakout effects, can benefit from the ingredient. However, if your complexion is on the more sensitive side, incorporate it in small doses starting with your nighttime treatments.

Slight inflammation and sensitivity is to be expected in the beginning, just as you would with retinol or hydroquinone; but if you continue to experience irritation, you may want to seek out a product with a lower concentration, or a milder alternative altogether.

Lastly we want to say a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Dr Tatiana and Rishi on their magical wedding. Have you ever seen a bride so beautiful? Just look at that skin!
