Ageing Hands

The hands are a part of the body that age quickly. Hands are often exposed to sun, cold, wind, frequent washing etc. The thin skin on the back of the hands can become loose, wrinkly and pigmented; often before these signs of ageing become apparent on other parts of the body. There are a number of treatment options that are well-suited to rejuvenating the skin of the hands to make it smoother, tighter and brighter.

Treatment Options

CO2 laser skin rejuvenation is a powerful treatment. The laser is used to heat the skin and cause tiny pin-point burns. The skin responds to the treatment by rapidly repairing and remodelling. This creates new collagen, elastin and hydrators within the skin and is an excellent treatment for sun damaged and aged hands.

Morpheus 8 is a device that combines microneedling with radiofrequency heat energy to tighten skin and underlying tissues. As the small needles enter the skin, the tips of the needles heat up with radiofrequency energy. This sends controlled heat energy into the dermis and stimulates collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production, leading to tissue tightening and plumping. Morpheus 8 is safe for any skin type and can be used alongside other treatments such as dermal fillers.

Biorevitalisation describes a treatment where hyaluronic acid (sometimes in combination with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants) is injected into the upper layers of the skin to rehydrate, brighten and smooth the skin. Biorevitalisation typically contains more hyaluronic acid than mesotherapy and is an excellent treatment for fine lines and skin lacking in moisture. We use products such as Profhilo, Hydromax and Hydro. Depending on the choice of product, we recommend a course of 2-4 treatments (1 per month).

Biostimulation involves the use of external stimuli to harness the body’s own regenerative capabilities to promote collagen production, improve skin elasticity, and promote overall rejuvenation. By activating cellular mechanisms, biostimulation can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, hollowness, scars, and other signs of aging. At Drs Tatiana + Rishi Advanced Aesthetics we used biostimulators that contain poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), e.g. Sculptra and those containing polynucleotides.

Exosomes are a topical gel applied to skin following microneedling, SecretRF, or CO2 laser treatments. The gel is made from billions of exosomes, micro-vesicles that contain thousands of growth factors, cytokines and nutrients that help to boost collagen, elastin and natural hydration. Exosomes work to regenerate skin cells, reduce inflammation and pigmentation, improve immune function and accelerate skin healing.

Polynucleotides are the building blocks of DNA and RNA – nucleic acids that give the instructions for cell function, regeneration and gene expression. As polynucleotides are broken down in our body, they promote DNA synthesis, increase cell regeneration and the production of collagen and elastin, resulting in tighter and fuller skin.

Dermal filler is a term used to describe a substance that is injected into the dermis of the skin in order to plump the area. Although there are many different types of fillers, the most popular are hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, which are naturally produced. Injections of dermal filler into the back of the hands plumps the skin, softens the bony contours, and achieves a naturally more youthful appearance.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment is the injection of your own blood plasma, that is rich in platelets and fortified with vitamins and nutrients, into the skin. The injection of PRP stimulates skin repair, therefore tightening and plumping the skin. PRP can be combined with ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, nucleic acids, powerful antioxidants such as glutathione and hyaluronic acid.

SecretRF is an evolution of microneedling with radiofrequency. This device works by precisely inserting small needles into different depths of the skin, creating microchannels, with the subsequent delivery of radiofrequency heat energy to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, thereby tightening and plumping the skin. The motor mechanism of the SecretRF is extremely smooth and it’s needles particularly precise and well-insulated, resulting in minimal downtime and being suitable for all skin types.

This dynamic, non-ablative treatment, pairs RF microneedling with an erbium glass laser. The RF microneedles deliver heat to the deeper layers of the skin via precise needles, whilst the laser gently delivers powerful beams to the skin in microcolumns, creating bulk heating. This works to effectively target common signs of ageing and skin concerns in any skin type, with almost no downtime and an instant glass-like glow to the skin.

Unlike traditional lasers, which use nanosecond pulses, picosecond lasers deliver laser energy in extremely short picosecond pulses. This ultra-short pulse duration allows precise targeting of pigment particles with a photo-acoustic effect, working to shatter pigment particles with minimal heat and damage to the surrounding skin. This reduced heat generation helps minimise the risk of thermal damage to the surrounding skin and lowers the chance of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, whilst stimulating the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.
