Wide Jaw

A wide or heavy-set jaw can often be caused by enlargement of the masseter muscles. The masseters sit over the jaw and can be felt when clenching the back teeth. In some people, due to genetics or frequent jaw clenching, the masseters can enlarge. Masseter enlargement can make the lower part of the face look wider and more masculine. Botulinum toxin or ‘Botox’ injections can be used to safely and effectively shrink the size of the masseter muscles, reducing the width of the jaw and making the lower face look slimmer.

Treatment Options

Botulinum toxin has been used in medical treatments for over 4 decades and was first approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of wrinkles in 1989. It is now one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world. It works by temporarily blocking the connection between nerves and muscles, enabling muscles to relax. The injection of botulinum toxin into the masseters, relaxes these muscles and reduces their activity. This makes them shrink in size, giving the jawline a slimmer appearance, without affecting your ability to smile, speak or chew.
