A sagging neck is a common concern. With advances in gravity-defying facial treatments, the neck is sometimes overlooked, becoming a give-away of age. One of the main causes of neck sagging is the contraction and shortening of the platysma muscle as it loses flexibility with age. The Platysma muscle is a long, sheet-like muscle that runs from the jawline down to the décolletage. Shortening of this muscle causes a downward pull on the skin of the lower face giving the appearance of vertical bands that run from the jawline to the collarbones, commonly referred to as a ‘Turkey neck’.

Botulinum toxin type A is a safe and effective treatment to reduce the contraction of the platysma muscle and thereby reduce the appearance of vertical neck bands. This Neck Band (Vertical) Reduction treatment is known as the ‘Nefertiti neck lift’.

How to prepare?

At Drs Tatiana + Rishi Advanced Aesthetics, we ensure that only highly trained doctors or surgeons carry out botulinum toxin type A treatments, so you can be sure that you are getting the highest possible standard of care. When considering an injectable treatment, we recommend that you start by booking in a consultation with the doctor. During the consultation we will assess the area of concern, answer any of your questions and develop an effective treatment plan for you.

On the day of treatment your doctor will confirm the treatment plan, take you through the consent process and take some pre-treatment photographs. The area of treatment will be cleaned, a pencil will be used to mark the areas of treatment and the doctor will start the treatment. The process of injection is normally no longer than 5 minutes. After treatment, the doctor will apply aftercare cream and discuss how best to look after the area that has been treated. The receptionist will then offer you a review appointment and send you an email confirming the aftercare instructions.

Botulinum toxin type A is a safe and effective treatment to address vertical neck bands. Depending on the anatomy and strength of the muscles, some people may require a higher dose injection compared to others.

No, a patch-test is not required.

Optimal results can normally be achieved in one treatment session. If further treatment is required, we offer a complimentary ‘top-up’ within 1 month of treatment.

The injections are done using a very small needle and are not painful. Numbing cream is not usually required.

As with any injection, it is possible that you may experience some redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising. These usually resolve within hours after treatment. If there is any bruising, it is usually minimal.

Our injectable treatments are performed by fully trained and experienced doctors and surgeons. You can rest assured that you are getting the highest standard of care by every member of our team.

We recommend that you avoid taking blood thinning tablets such as aspirin or ibuprofen (unless prescribed by your doctor) for 3 days prior to treatment. We also advise avoiding alcohol intake for 24 hours prior to treatment. It is also important that you are available for follow-up after treatment, so we recommend not to book injectable treatment if you are travelling in the next two weeks.
