What Results Can I Expect?

Dermal fillers are injectable substances used to restore volume, smooth out wrinkles and lines and enhance facial contours. Although there are many different types of fillers, the most popular are hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers. HA is a substance that already exists in the skin; one of its’ main functions is to hydrate and plump the skin.

Dermal fillers can have different structures and consistencies that make them more suitable for treatment of different areas. For example, when choosing the best filler for the lips, we seek a filler that is soft and moves smoothly with facial expression e.g. smiling or puckering of the lips and that adds moisture. When choosing the best filler for the cheeks, we seek a filler that is firm and volumising, adding better definition and providing a lifting effect. At Drs Tatiana + Rishi Advanced Aesthetics we specialise in using dermal fillers so that you look natural, refreshed and lifted, rather than looking ‘done’.

We work with a number of different dermal filler brands and will help you to choose the best filler for you. This will often depend on your skin, the area we are treating and the results we aim to achieve. As part of your consultation with us, we will plan the areas that would benefit from treatment, which fillers will work best for you and how much filler should be used, ensuring that you achieve optimal and natural results.

How to prepare?

Common areas of dermal filler treatment are: hollow temples, the forehead, hollow under-eyes (tear troughs), the nose, sunken cheeks, nose-to-mouth lines, down-turning mouth, lip lines, thin lips, weak chin, undefined jaw, deep facial wrinkles, and loss of volume in different body areas e.g. hands.

At Drs Tatiana + Rishi Advanced Aesthetics, we ensure that only highly trained doctors or surgeons carry out dermal filler treatments, so you can be sure that you are getting the highest possible standard of care. When considering a dermal filler treatment, we recommend that you start by booking in a consultation with the doctor. During the consultation we will assess the area of concern, answer any of your questions, show you examples of our work and develop an effective treatment plan for you.

On the day of treatment your doctor will confirm the treatment plan, take you through the consent process and take some pre-treatment photographs. The skin will be cleaned and numbing cream or anaesthetic injections will be applied. Once the skin is numb, the doctor will start the treatment. The process of injection can take 10-30 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated. After treatment, the doctor will apply aftercare cream, massage the filler and show you the results. We will also discuss how best to look after the area that has been treated. The receptionist will then offer you a review appointment and send you an email confirming the aftercare instructions.

Dermal filler treatments are suitable for restoring lost volume and enhancing features. There is no ‘right age’ to start dermal filler treatment, so if this is a treatment that you are considering, we advise that you speak to one of our experienced doctors for advice. Fillers are suitable for any skin type.

There are several circumstances in which fillers would not be advised: pregnancy, breastfeeding, certain health problems, active acne or infection in the area of treatment, history of allergy to dermal fillers or other products used in the treatment. The suitability of treatment will be discussed during your consultation.

Dermal fillers do not require a patch-test.

Optimal results can often be achieved in one to two sessions. If you require further treatment, then this is normally done after 2 weeks to allow any swelling or bruising to dissipate.

The longevity of results will often depend on the area treated, product used and individual metabolism. On average, most patients will only need to repeat treatment once every 9-12 months.

The injections themselves are not painful. We provide numbing cream, numbing injections and skin cooling to minimise any discomfort. Most of our dermal fillers also have anaesthetic mixed in with the filler in order to provide further pain relief.

As with any injection, it is possible that you may experience some redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising. These may take a 2-3 days to resolve and bruises sometimes longer. We advise that you don’t plan treatments around important commitments and allow at least 2 weeks between treatment and an important social or work event.

Our injectable treatments are performed by fully trained and experienced doctors and surgeons. You can rest assured that you are getting the highest standard of care by every member of our team.

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Teosyal, Stylage, Restylane and Belotero can be dissolved. Dissolving involves and injection of water that contains Hyaluronidase enzyme. This enzyme disintegrates filler quickly and painlessly, to return your skin to normal.

We recommend that you avoid taking blood thinning tablets such as aspirin or ibuprofen (unless prescribed by your doctor) for 3 days prior to treatment. We also advise avoiding alcohol intake for 24 hours prior to treatment. It is also important that you are available for follow-up after treatment, so we recommend not to book injectable treatment if you are travelling in the next two weeks.
