Excess sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, is a condition where sweat glands are over-active. The body normally sweats to regulate body temperature. In hyperhidrosis, however, the sweating is excessive and can be embarrassing. The most common areas affected are the scalp, forehead, underarms, hands and feet.

Botulinum toxin as an Excessive Sweating Treatment works by blocking the release of acetylcholine, the chemical messenger that signals the sweat glands to produce sweat. Botulinum toxin has been used in medical treatments for over 4 decades and was first approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of wrinkles in 1989. It is now one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world.

Botulinum toxin as an Excessive Sweating Treatment can be injected into the under arms, palms of hands, soles of feet, scalp and forehead.

At Drs Tatiana + Rishi Advanced Aesthetics, we ensure that only highly trained doctors or surgeons carry out botulinum toxin type A treatments, so you can be sure that you are getting the highest possible standard of care. When considering an injectable treatment, we recommend that you start by booking in a consultation with the doctor. During the consultation we will assess the area of concern, answer any of your questions and develop an effective treatment plan for you.

On the day of treatment your doctor will confirm the Excessive Sweating treatment plan and take you through the consent process. The area of treatment will be cleaned and numbing cream will be applied (if needed). The process of injection is normally no longer than 5 minutes. After treatment, the doctor will apply aftercare cream and discuss how best to look after the area that has been treated. The receptionist will then offer you a review appointment and send you an email confirming the aftercare instructions.

Botulinum toxin type A injections are safe and effective at treating excessive sweating. Depending on the anatomy and strength of the sweat glands, some people may require a higher dose injection compared to others

No, a patch-test is not required.

Optimal results can normally be achieved in one treatment session. If further treatment is required, we offer a complimentary ‘top-up’ within 1 month of treatment.

The injections are done using a very small needle and are not painful. Numbing cream is offered.

As with any injection, it is possible that you may experience some redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising. These usually resolve within hours after treatment. If there is any bruising, it is usually minimal.

Our injectable treatments are performed by fully trained and experienced doctors and surgeons. You can rest assured that you are getting the highest standard of care by every member of our team.

We recommend that you avoid taking blood thinning tablets such as aspirin or ibuprofen (unless prescribed by your doctor) for 3 days prior to treatment. We also advise avoiding alcohol intake for 24 hours prior to treatment. It is also important that you are available for follow-up after treatment, so we recommend not to book injectable treatment if you are travelling in the next two weeks.
