Lip Lines

Lip lines, which are often called ‘lipstick lines’ or ‘smoker lines’ describe the small vertical lines that form on the skin above and below the lips.  They often develop in our 30s and become more prominent in our 40s. They are caused by:

  • Loss of collagen, elastin and skin hydrators as we age (exacerbated by smoking and sun exposure)
  • Facial expression, causing the skin to be repeatedly creased
  • Gravity, causing the skin to drop
  • Sleep, causing the face to be scrunched by the pillow

Treatment Options

Carbon dioxide (CO2) laser is the gold standard therapy for skin smoothing and tightening. CO2 laser creates tiny burns in the skin that stimulate the skin to repair and re-model into healthier skin. The treatment can be mild (for gentle resurfacing and stimulation), moderate (for skin tightening, treating pigmentation and fine lines) or intense (for acne scars and deep wrinkles) with long-lasting results. Best for: skin tightening and long-term anti-ageing.

Botulinum toxin has been used in medical treatments for over 4 decades and was first approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of wrinkles in 1989. It is now one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world. It works by temporarily blocking the connection between nerves and muscles, thereby relaxing muscles. Botulinum toxin can effectively treat lip lines by relaxing the muscle around the lips (Orbicularis Oris muscle), smoothening visible lines.

Best for:
Fine lines

Biorevitalisation describes a treatment where light hyaluronic acid, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants are injected under the skin surface to rehydrate, brighten and smooth the skin, reducing the appearance of lip lines. This is a refreshing treatment for the skin and lasts for approximately 6 months. For optimal results, you may benefit from a course of 2-4 treatments (1 per month) alongside Light Emitting Diode (LED) facials.

Best for:
Thin skin

Biostimulation involves the use of external stimuli to harness the body’s own regenerative capabilities to promote collagen production, improve skin elasticity, and promote overall rejuvenation. By activating cellular mechanisms, biostimulation can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, hollowness, scars, and other signs of aging. At Drs Tatiana + Rishi Advanced Aesthetics we use biostimulators including Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP), those that contain poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), e.g. Sculptra and those containing polynucleotides.

Dermal filler is a substance that is injected into the dermis of the skin in order to fill the area. Hyaluronic acid dermal filler is injected into the lip lines to plump and smooth the skin. This is an effective and long-lasting treatment.

Drs Tatiana + Rishi Advanced Aesthetics pioneered this approach, whereby RF microneedling is immediately followed by CO2 laser. to provide a highly effective treatment for acne scarring, with minimal downtime. This combination approach has a synergistic effect, where the RF microneedling results in mechanical breakdown of scar tissue and fibroblast stimulation; whilst the CO2 laser causes epidermal neocollagenesis and resurfacing. Due to the re-modelling stimulated by the RF microneedling, less aggressive CO2 resurfacing is required to achieve comparable results, minimising downtime.

Immediately following this treatment, we often recommend application of exosomes. Exosomes are micro-vesicles that contain thousands of growth factors, cytokines and nutrients that help to boost collagen, elastin and natural hydration. Exosomes work to regenerate skin cells, reduce inflammation and pigmentation, improve immune function and accelerate skin healing.

This dynamic, non-ablative treatment, pairs RF microneedling with an erbium glass laser. The RF microneedles deliver heat to the deeper layers of the skin via precise needles, whilst the laser gently delivers powerful beams to the skin in microcolumns, creating bulk heating. This works to effectively target common signs of ageing and skin concerns in any skin type, with almost no downtime and an instant glass-like glow to the skin.

Morpheus 8 is a device that combines microneedling with radiofrequency heat energy to smooth and firm the skin. As the small needles enter the skin, the tips of the needles heat up with radiofrequency energy. This sends controlled heat energy into the upper layers of the skin and stimulates collagen production, thus tightening, firming and smoothing the skin over several months after the treatment. Morpheus 8 is safe for any skin type and can be used alongside other treatments such as dermal fillers.

SecretRF is an evolution of microneedling with radiofrequency. This device works by precisely inserting small needles into different depths of the skin, creating microchannels, with the subsequent delivery of radiofrequency heat energy to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin thereby reducing lip lines. The motor mechanism of the SecretRF is extremely smooth and it’s needles particularly precise and well-insulated, resulting in minimal downtime and being suitable for all skin types.

Exosomes are a topical gel applied to skin following microneedling, SecretRF, or CO2 laser treatments. The gel is made from billions of exosomes, micro-vesicles that contain thousands of growth factors, cytokines and nutrients that help to boost collagen, elastin and natural hydration. Exosomes work to regenerate skin cells, reduce downtime, improve the plumpness of the skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
