What Is PRP Hair TreatmentWhen you start to notice thinning hair, a receding hairline, or hair loss on your scalp, it can hurt how you feel about yourself. But don’t worry, you’re not alone. Millions of men and women in the UK, and around the world experience hair loss.

You might have encountered PRP hair treatment if you are searching for the best way to kick-start healthy hair regrowth and achieve fuller and thicker-looking hair.

But what is PRP hair treatment? It is a scientifically proven hair restoration treatment that uses the power of your blood to help stimulate hair growth. Not only does it support natural hair regrowth, but it is also less invasive and safer than hair transplants.

At Doctors Tatiana + Rishi Advanced Aesthetics, we use PRP treatment to tackle many different types of hair loss. From male pattern baldness to female androgenetic alopecia, we can tailor your hair loss treatment to meet your needs and desired hair growth goals.

To help you learn more about PRP hair loss treatment, we discuss how it works and what the benefits are. If you want to speak to us in person, you can also contact our clinic below.

What is PRP hair restoration treatment?

PRP treatment, or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment, is one of the most in-demand hair growth therapies. It can help treat several hair loss concerns and is an excellent solution for those unsuitable for hair transplants.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment is also an ideal option if you are in the early stages of hair thinning or loss. This is because it can support the healthy regrowth of existing hair follicles. PRP injections can also stimulate dormant hair follicles and push them back into the active growth phase.

PRP therapy is a natural hair loss treatment. It uses your own blood to boost circulation to the scalp and promote new hair growth. It releases more oxygen and growth factors to your hair follicles.

Growth factors and proteins in your blood can also help increase hair density and the thickness of existing hair follicles.

How Does PRP for Hair Loss Work?

The PRP treatment process is a fairly simple three-step process.

  1.     Taking blood – your doctor will start by drawing some of your own blood.
  2.     Extraction – we place your blood in a centrifuge to remove red blood cells and separate the platelets and white blood cells. This is the part of the blood that contains the proteins and growth factors.
  3.     PRP injections – Your doctor will then inject the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) into the areas of your scalp where you have hair thinning or hair loss. This process helps to stimulate hair follicles for new hair growth.

Some patients can find PRP treatment, specifically the injections to be an uncomfortable process. For this reason, we can discuss using a topical anaesthetic to numb the treatment area.

What happens after PRP hair treatment?

After your treatment, you must keep your scalp clean and dry for a few hours. During this time, you may experience some numbness or tingling in the treatment area. This is normal and will subside.

PRP treatment results

After your first treatment, you can start to see hair regrowth. However, it will take a few months for inactive hair follicles to regrow.

We advise more than one PRP treatment to see the best results. These are spaced 3-4 weeks apart. This is because at any one time, your hair follicles can be in different stages of the hair growth cycle.

It can take up to six months to see your final results.

Benefits of PRP platelet-rich plasma therapy vs hair transplants

If you want a non-surgical solution for hair restoration, here is why you should consider PRP therapy over a hair transplant:

  •       Results without surgery – PRP treatment involves a simple blood draw and injections. Hair transplants require surgical extraction of hair follicles to implant them back into other areas of the scalp.
  •       Minimal downtime – you should be able to return to your normal activities immediately. Surgery requires more extended recovery periods.
  •       Little risk of a reaction – because PRP uses the plasma from your own blood.
  •       Natural hair growth – by improving the overall health of your scalp and improving the function of your existing hair follicles
  •       Early intervention – if you are in the early stages of hair loss, PRP can provide healthy hair growth and an increase in hair density without going under the knife.

What forms of hair loss can platelet rich plasma (PRP) treat?

PRP therapy is a versatile hair loss treatment that addresses several issues with your hair and scalp. These include:

  •       Androgenetic Alopecia (Male and Female Pattern Baldness): especially in the early or moderate stages of hair loss
  •       Hair thinning: we can use PRP treatment to add strength to existing hair and slow down any further hair loss
  •       Alopecia Areata: which is caused by autoimmune diseases
  •       Hair loss resulting from illness or Postpartum: supporting the recovery and health of hair follicles after changes in your hormones or stress
  •       Post-hair transplant support: to help with the healing process and promote further hair growth

PRP treatment does not address the root cause of your hair loss, but it addresses the underlying causes of your hair’s thinning. As a result, it can support your body in healing itself from the inside out.

Am I suitable for PRP hair treatment?

PRP works best when you still have weak hair growth on your scalp. It is also for those who can still see hair follicles and only have a small amount of alopecia areata.

At Doctors Tatiana + Rishi Advanced Aesthetics, we provide every patient with an in-depth consultation. This helps us to assess the condition of your hair and look at your medical history and lifestyle choices. From this we can assess whether you are suitable for PRP or you would be best with an alternative treatment such as exosome hair therapy.

During your consultation, we will also show you how the treatment works and what results you can achieve. Your doctor will create a tailored PRP hair treatment plan that will address your specific concerns and help you see fuller hair.
